Gameday Ditch: 2001 Throwbacks & Christian’s Zona Picks
I wonder what kind of action Joey Harrington has on tonight's game?
This week I chatted with Joey Harrington and Keenan Howry via Twitter about the classic/vintage/old nature of the original Nike uniforms that they both wore during their time at Oregon.
Joey has actually only recently dusted off his Twitter account for the first time in basically ever, and his sudden online activity got my conspiracy wheels turning once again.
Hear me out: the much-beloved throwback Kenny Wheaton uniforms were worn in 2014 to mark the twentieth anniversary of The Pick.
What if Joey has logged into Twitter just a few weeks ahead of a special throwback uniform debut?
This year, 2021, would coincidentally mark twenty years after Harrington’s 2001 squad finished second in the nation and were the first Ducks to ever ask the question: “why can’t we chase after a national title?”
We also saw last week that the Beavs have been selling their own throwback uniforms from their Ochocinco/.23 Fiesta Bowl team, but without much extra information or fanfare around the gear.
There have also been problems getting any new jerseys into The Duck Store due to Nike’s reported supply chain issues, and so it makes sense that every Nike school may just be hesitant to make any promises or announcements of hot new merch for fear of creating demand that they just can’t handle at the moment.
I’ve seen other tiny hints and nods from people around the Oregon equipment corners of the program that have been saying things to the effect of, “just wait until the Cal game,” or, “they don’t even know what’s coming.”
So mark this one down:
We are going to get a throwback uniform that is a special nod to Joey and the 2001 team for either the Cal game (Friday night, in primetime), or the Colorado game (rematch of the 2001-02 Fiesta Bowl itself).
You heard it here first.
Now let’s get to Christian and his picks.
Official Picks:
Stony Brook/Oregon Total, Over 54 - Winner
Season Record: (3-1) + Leans: (5-1)
He kept it real simple for y’all last week, and his warning to avoid the points turned out to be the safe play because Oregon won by 41 points when they would’ve needed to cover 42.
Christian does his best to avoid any and all features on SVP’s Bad Beats.
This week’s game looks equally as outmatched as last week, but it seems that Caesars at least felt obligated to put some verifiable odds into the world since it is a Power 5 game on the surface.
But Christian foresees an equally conservative game plan from the Ducks that will lean heavily on running the ball. Don’t expect that we’ll be nearly as interested in scoring every time we get the ball as we will be in getting the young guys lots of reps.
“I think I like the under, Ducks won’t give up much, gonna run the clock out. We’re not gonna show much again before Stanford.”
There you have it folks. Take the Under 58, and prepare yourself to return to some more interesting plays next weekend down on The Farm.
Happy Gameday, and Go Ducks.
